🏠Home Care Tips for Healthy Teeth & Gums
Keeping your smile healthy starts at home! In between your visits to Divine Dental, these daily habits can make a big difference in preventing cavities, gum disease, and bad breath.
1. Brush Twice a Day (Properly)
- Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.
- Brush for two full minutes, morning and night.
- Hold your brush at a 45-degree angle and use gentle, circular motions.
- Don’t forget your gum line, tongue, and the backs of your teeth.
2. Floss Daily
- Flossing removes plaque and food between teeth where brushes can’t reach.
- Do it once a day, ideally at night before bed.
- Use traditional floss or floss picks whatever helps you stay consistent!
3. Use an Antibacterial Mouthwash
- Mouthwash helps rinse away debris and reduce bacteria that cause plaque, gum disease, and bad breath.
- Choose one with the ADA Seal of Approval for safety and effectiveness.
4. Drink Plenty of Water
- Water helps wash away food particles and bacteria.
- It also helps neutralize acid and keep saliva levels balanced (your mouth’s natural defense!).
5. Avoid Tobacco & Limit Alcohol
- Smoking and chewing tobacco are leading causes of gum disease and oral cancer.
- Excess alcohol can irritate soft tissues and increase your risk of oral health problems.
6. Eat a Mouth Healthy Diet
- Limit sugary snacks and drinks.
- Choose crunchy fruits and vegetables, dairy products, lean proteins, and whole grains to strengthen teeth and gums.
7. Protect Your Lips and Teeth
- Use lip balm with SPF to reduce lip cancer risk.
- Wear a mouth guard if you play sports or grind your teeth at night.
8. Visit Your Dentist Every 6 Months
- Regular checkups and cleanings are key to catching issues early and maintaining your oral health.
- Ask us about oral cancer screenings, fluoride treatments, or sealants if needed.
